Changes coming to the Online Access Request System (OARS)

You are receiving this message because you have been identified as someone who has used the Online Access Request System (OARS) on more than one occasion in the last six months.


ITS is in the process of moving OARS to a new platform. This change allows us to begin to incorporate feedback we have heard from users and to move to a more secure and updatable platform. Starting December 7, OARS will have a new look and feel and require two-factor authentication. The functions available today will still be available and the process to request access also will not change.

As an interim security step, starting on October 26, users connecting from a non-UM network, such as a public WiFi or home network, must use the U-M Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to access OARS.

  • Note that MGuest is considered a non-UM network.
  • A VPN connection is not needed if using a MiWorkspace Windows machine. (Learn more about VPN on MiWorkspace devices.)
  • Connections through wired ethernet on campus and MWireless are secure and do not require VPN.

We are excited about the new OARS and appreciate your patience and flexibility as we prepare to bring it to you. Look for further communications in November regarding the migration.
