MAIS Web Browser and Desktop Operating System Support

This page provides information about the supported Windows and Macintosh operating systems and browsers for the Web-based applications that MAIS manages. When MAIS evaluates software products, one of the key factors influencing a purchase decision is that the application must operate on both Macintosh and Windows operating systems.

If the software preferred by our University partner is not Mac-compatible, MAIS works directly with the software vendor to influence it to support the latest version of both Apple and Window operating systems and to expand its browser combinations. MAIS also works directly with Apple to identify and resolve issues it can address on its end, and MAIS provides a Citrix-based Internet Explorer browser that Mac users can access to run Wolverine Access applications.

For information on web browser settings compatible with MAIS Web-based applications, see the following:
Establishing Internet Explorer 7 Web Browser Settings
Establishing Internet Explorer 6 Web Browser Settings
Establishing Safari Web Browser Settings

Note: Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) is not currently supported for use with MAIS administrative systems.

1 MAIS primary System Test version is Windows XP with Internet Explorer 7.
2 For PeopleTools 8.48 (FIN & HE), PeopleSoft also certifies their applications with OS X (Tiger & Leopard) and Firefox 1.0.
3 An alternate method is provided for Mac users who can open a Citrix session and select Wolverine Access Gateway from the Citrix Start menu, which will launch an IE browser.
4 Recommended access to My LINC for all Macintosh users is through a Citrix login. Mac users cannot access My LINC directly from the link on the M-Pathways Financials 8.8 Web pages.
5 My LINC requires the most recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader v. 5.0 or 6.0.
MAIS recommends installing Macromedia Flash 6.0 for full functionality within My LINC.
Windows users must have RapidPlayer installed on their computers to run My LINC eLearning simulations.
6 SciQuest supports most new browsers after they have been publicly available for 6 months. However, not all punchout suppliers support Safari.
7

BusinessObjects XI R2 is compatible with the MAIS-supported Windows browsers, Internet Explorer (IE) 6 and IE 7 with Java 1.4.2.x, 1.5.0.x, or 1.6.0_02+. See Windows Java and XI R2 compatibility details.

8 BusinessObjects XI R2 is compatible with the MAIS-supported Macintosh browser, Safari 1.3.x with Java 1.4.2.x. See Macintosh Java and XI R2 compatibility details for information about Java 1.5.0.x as well as Safari 2.0.
9 WebNow is compatible with the MAIS-supported Windows browsers IE 6 and IE 7 with Java 1.4.2. However, Java 1.5.0.x is recommended. See Document imaging details.
10

WebNow is compatible with Safari 3.1

8.x requires JRE 1.6.13 or higher

Macintosh Browser Notes

  • MAIS provides Citrix for Macintosh users, which enables Macs to connect to Wolverine Access applications via a Citrix-based IE browser. Macintosh users without Citrix access can request it by contacting the MAIS Help Desk at maishelpdesk@umich.edu.
  • For full functionality, Macintosh users should connect to My LINC using the Citrix-based IE browser. From there, they can click the link on the University Business Web page for My LINC ( Learning & Information Center).
