BusinessObjects XI 3.1 is compatible with the ITS-supported Windows browsers, Internet Explorer (IE) 7, 8 and 9, as well as Firefox 3.6 and 8. However, there are a few workstation adjustments to make. For many, system administrators and desktop support staff in your unit will make these changes. For others, who either don't have desktop support staff in their unit or who want to run XI 3.1 on a home or laptop computer, you will need to make these changes yourself.
Before running BusinessObjects XI 3.1 for the first time, you will need to adjust a few browser settings. These adjusted settings enable you to print reports or save them to Excel, and to turn off the trusted site automatic pop-up.
Note: Some users find that BusinessObjects works better in Internet Explorer 8 and 9 when they select Tools > Compatibility View. Other users do not experience improvement in Compatibility View.
Full-access (but not limited-acess) WebI users require a Java plug-in. The following combinations of browser and Java plug-in version are supported.
| Browser | JVM |
|---|---|
| IE 7.0 | Sun 1.5.0_xx Sun 1.6.0_02+ |
| IE 8.0* | Sun 1.6.0_xx |
| IE 9.0* | Sun 1.6.0_xx |
| Firefox 3.6 | Sun 1.5.0_xx Sun 1.6.0_xx |
| Firefox 8** | Sun 1.6.0_xx |
*Only Compatibility Mode supported.
**New Firefox releases will be supported with minimal testing about two weeks after release by Mozilla.
If you don't have a Java plug-in already, the plug-in will be downloaded the first time you run BusinessObjects XI 3.1.
For some versions of Java, a screen of maize and blue graphics displays when you create or run a BusinessObjects report. Here is the fix:
