BusinessObjects Upgrade: Macintosh Workstation Requirements
For the first time, BusinessObjects on a Macintosh is supported by the vendor. BusinessObjects XI R2 is compatible with both Macintosh OS X.3 (Panther) and OS X.4 (Tiger). Below you will find information about browser and Java plug-in compatibility.
On This Page:
Safari Information
XI R2 is only supported for computers that use the Safari 1.3.x browser.
Since Safari 2.0 is automatically included when Tiger is installed and downgrading to Safari 1.3.x is inconvenient, MAIS has done some preliminary Safari 2.0 testing. Only one significant issue was revealed, as follows:
XI R2 reports are opened in Adobe Acrobat if you open the report by clicking on the report title. Testing revealed a problem with returning to a report after printing. If a PDF plug-in is installed, Adobe Acrobat opens within the same browser window. With Safari 2.0 and a PDF plug-in, the XI R2 "Return to HTML" button does not work. This means you cannot exit Adobe Acrobat and return to the XI R2 InfoView report window.
Refer to the Macintosh Workaround for Safari 2.0 Printing Issue document for step-by-step workaround instructions.
Note: Business Objects Corp. and Apple are communicating about Safari 2.0 support. If you choose to use Safari 2.0, please be aware that you may encounter some BusinessObjects issues for which there may be no workarounds.
Java Plug-in Information (Web Intelligence only)
BusinessObjects XI R2 Web Intelligence (WebI) requires a Java plug-in.
- Business Objects supports Java plug-in version 1.4.2.x.
- If you don't have a Java plug-in already, version 1.4.2.x will be downloaded the first time you run BusinessObjects XI R2.
Note: If you use Java 1.5.0.x, preliminary testing has not revealed any incompatibilities.
