Delimiter Macro

Delimiter Macro for Pasting a List of Values or Creating Grouped Values in BusinessObjects

Douglas Hovey, a BusinessObjects User Group member, created a macro for Excel that makes it easy to paste a list of values or create grouped values in BusinessObjects. The macro, called the Delimiter, enables you to select a range of numbers within Excel (such as Project Grants,Vendor IDs, or EmplIDs), and copy the whole list into a query filter or prompt. By default, the Delimiter separates the values with semicolons, which is what XI R2 requires. It also has a button that creates formulas for custom groupings of values in BusinessObjects, using If Then Else logic.

Use the following list to access the macro, an instruction document, and a demonstration video.

  • The Delimiter macro: Right-click the Delimiter macro link, and use the menu item Save Target As or Save Link As to save the file to your local disk. Do not save the file to your desktop or you will experience runtime errors when you try to execute the macro.
Note: If you have an earlier version of this macro, replace it with this version.
  • Instruction document: This Word document provides detailed instructions for installing and using the Delimiter.
  • Demonstration video: This BOTV episode in MyLINC features Douglas Hovey demonstrating the Delimiter.
