Payroll

Overview

The Payroll module of the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) is used by the University Payroll Office staff to maintain payroll data and manage the payroll processes. It captures employee attendance and timekeeping information, produces checks and statements of earnings (paystubs), distributes salary and fringe benefits to staff and retirees, processes remittances to government agencies for whom deductions are taken, and creates required tax documents.

Payroll draws the following information from other shared and integrated M-Pathways modules:

  • Campus Community module:
personal information, such as employee or student identification number (EmplID or U-M ID), name, and address.
  • Human Resources module:
individual job, appointment, and funding data.
  • Benefits Administration module:
    retirement, benefit, and billing information.
  • Time & Labor module:
time reporting entries and leave plan information.

Payroll also integrates with the M-Pathways Financial System, feeding information into the General Ledger and other reports.

A number of self-service options are available to U-M staff via Wolverine Access. They can:

  • View and/or update information associated with the direct deposit of their pay or their Michigan and Federal W-4 forms
  • View their current and historical paystub information.

Follow these steps to use the self-service options available to faculty and staff:

  1. Open a browser window to the Wolverine Access Gateway:
  2. Click "Employee Business."
  3. Enter your uniqname and UMICH (Kerberos) password.
  4. Click a self-service option.

The U-M Payroll Office provides detailed payroll-related information, including:

  • Forms that can be downloaded.
  • Hardcopy timesheet due dates.
  • Electronic time entry deadlines.
  • Leave accrual schedule.

U-M staff with payroll-related questions can contact the HR/Payroll Service Center and ask a trained specialist questions about payroll, benefits, employment, and general human resources.

Within MAIS, the Payroll module is supported by the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) Division.
