OARS Migration Successful

The Online Access Request System (OARS) was successfully upgraded on December 5, and it moved to a new, more secure database and application platform. Please update your bookmarks to the new OARS website https://access.its.umich.edu.

New OARS is noticeably different from the previous version. Requestors/Approvers are now required to use an MToken to log in to the system. Visit OARS: Overview of Changes for a high level explanation of the differences between old OARS and new OARS.

How to Request Access

U-M faculty or staff members can obtain access to the University's administrative data resources that pertain to the type of data and level of access they need to conduct University business.

Online Access Request System (OARS)

Online Access Request System (OARS) is a tool for requesting and authorizing access to administrative data in ITS-managed systems and applications, including:

How can I Use OARS?

Your role controls what you can see and do within OARS.

  • Unit Liaisons can obtain access-related information for all users in their unit, and can initiate and authorize access requests.

  • Individuals can view only their own information. They can initiate access requests for themselves and others, but cannot authorize requests.

Using OARS

Using OARS Outside U-M

Note: As a security step, users connecting from a non-UM network, such as a public WiFi or home network, must use the U-M Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to access OARS.

  • Note that MGuest is considered a non-UM network.
  • A VPN connection is not needed if using a MiWorkspace Windows machine. (Learn more about VPN on MiWorkspace devices.)
  • Connections through wired ethernet on campus and MWireless are secure and do not require VPN.
