The Student Administration System Division manages the M-Pathways
Student Administration System, which provides a single source
for information about students and the administrative data that
supports learning and teaching at U-M.

Student Administration Division Product Areas
- Recruiting/Admissions: This product area supports the
software applications used to collect and manage data related
to recruiting and admitting students. In addition to prospect
records and application processing, this data includes test scores;
admissions evaluations; education, work, and research experience;
academic interests; community service and other extracurricular
activities; languages; interviews; portfolios; and recommendations.
The Recruiting/Admissions product area also supports Web-based
prospect inquiries and admission applications for ten Admitting
Offices and online registration via Wolverine
Access for U-M Orientation for freshmen and transfer students.
This product area also supports the
M-Pathways Admissions Snapshot data set, the M-Pathways
Admissions Roster data set, and the M-Pathways
Recruiting and Admissions data set in the U-M Data Warehouse.
- Campus Community: This product area supports the software
applications used to collect and maintain biodemographic data
about all members of the University community in one location,
eliminating the need to re-enter data due to a change in an individual's
status. This product area is part of the Student Administration
(SA) System and the Human Resource Management System (HRMS), spanning
the management of shared, person-related functionality. Campus
Community also supports the software applications related to IDCard,
Residency, 3Cs (Communications, Checklists, Comments), External
Organizations, SEVIS, and SA & HRMS process-specific Security
functions. Web transactions on Wolverine Access for students,
faculty, and staff allow users to change their addresses, phone
numbers, and emergency contact information.
- Financial Aid and Student Financials: This product area
provides comprehensive support for student financial services
across campus. Within the Financial Aid area, the software is
used to administer both merit aid and need-based aid from federal,
state, private and institutional sources. The software provides
functionality from initial financial aid application through disbursement
of funds and also monitors Work Study employment. Within the Student
Financials area, the software application supports all student
account activity, billing, third party contracts, collections,
tuition calculation, application fees, and student refunds. Web
transactions on Wolverine
Access for students eSignature for federal loans, eApplication
for short term emergency loans, financial aid packages, disbursed
aid, document tracking, Customer Account, ePayments, e1098T information,
cumulative student loan debt, and financial hold information.
Several transactions are also available for parent viewing, as
authorized by their student. This product area also supports the
M-Pathways Financial
Aid/ Student Financials data set in the U-M Data Warehouse.
- Student Records, Curriculum, and Academic Advising: This
product area supports the software applications used to manage
data related to students' academic endeavors and performance,
U-M courses and classes, and students' progress towards a degree.
Within the Student Records area, the software is used to manage
information about registration, grades, graduation, academic programs,
academic standing and dismissal, academic honors, transfer credit,
and transcripts. Within the Curriculum area, the software is used
to manage data related to U-M courses and classes including class
schedules, class notes, enrollment limits, reserved seats, instructor
assignments, and room scheduling. Within the Academic Advising
area, the software is used to create rules that represent degree
requirements for various academic units on campus. These applications
enable academic units to track a student's progress toward graduation.
Web transactions on Wolverine
Access for students include class search, registration for
classes, viewing of grades, viewing of class permissions, and ordering of official and unofficial
transcripts. Web transactions on Wolverine Access for instructors in the Teaching Support section include viewing the advising report, viewing the degree audit report, viewing the class roster, recording grades, and assigning a proxy. This product area also supports the M-Pathways
Student Records data set, the M-Pathways
Third-Week-Count data set, the M-Pathways Student Retention and Completion data set and the M-Pathways
CRAS data set in the U-M Data Warehouse.
Student Administration Division Responsibilities
- Application Development: Develop and maintain the software
applications used to enter, update, and report on data in the
M-Pathways Student Administration System.
- Coordination: Coordinate with central offices, which
include Undergraduate
Admissions, the Office
of the Registrar, the Office
of Financial Aid, and Student
Financial Operations, to ensure that the supported systems
meet the needs of the University.
- Consulting Support: Help schools,
colleges, and administrative departments to improve their use
of M-Pathways, to refine internal business processes for maximum
alignment with enterprise systems, and to achieve optimal balance
between enterprise and supplemental systems. Unit consultations
support the development of reports and reporting strategies that
provide effective management information. Request Student Administration

- Documentation & Training: Prepare documentation and
coordinate Student Administration training classes to acquaint
new users with the system and provide experienced users with opportunities
to enhance their system skills.
