Human Resource Management System (HRMS) Division

The HRMS Division manages the M-Pathways Human Resource Management System, which provides a single source of information about U-M employees, prospective employees, and retirees. The HRMS Division also manages the eMploy applicant management system, which integrates the process of recruiting, selecting, and hiring candidates into a single, Web-based sytem.

HRMS Division Product Areas

  • Benefits Administration: This product area supports the software applications used by the Benefits Office staff to manage benefit services including new hire and annual enrollment, coverage and life event changes, COBRA, benefits billing, and vendor remittances for U-M active and retired faculty and staff. This product area interacts with the Human Resource and Payroll product areas to set up employee benefits and deduct and remit the applicable employee and University contributions for the various benefit programs and plans. Web transactions on Wolverine Access for faculty and staff allow users to view benefits and make open enrollment selections.
  • Human Resources: This product area manages the software applications that support Human Resources Central Office(s) and unit users, These applications provide a single source of information for faculty and staff, applicants, or retirees and support the various Human Resources processes such as employment, records, employee relations, employee development and compensation, which span an employee life cycle from hiring through retirement. Web transactions on Wolverine Access for faculty and staff allow users to view their appointment information and (when applicable) certify their effort. This product area also supports the M-Pathways Human Resource data set, the Legacy Human Resource data set, and the M-Pathways Human Resource Snapshot data set in the U-M Data Warehouse.
  • Payroll: This product area supports the software applications that enable the Payroll Office staff to maintain payroll data and manage the payroll processes as a coordinated element of the central database. Included are employee attendance information, check/paystub production, salary and fringe benefits distribution to staff and retirees, remittance processing to government agencies for deductions taken, and tax document creation. Web transactions on Wolverine Access allow faculty and staff to view earnings statements (paystubs) and view or update direct deposit and W-4 information. Students can view refund statements for loans and/or grants or update direct deposit information. This product area also supports the M-Pathways Payroll data set and the Legacy Payroll data set in the U-M Data Warehouse.
  • Time & Labor: This product area supports the software applications and processes used to manage all aspects of time and labor tracking.It provides the ability for time to be submitted via hardcopy time reports, entered directly into M-Pathways, or entered via an interface file from another time reporting system. The Leave Accrual component provides the capacity to set up leave plans and programs, maintain leave enrollment and participation in leave plans, and maintain accruals and balances for leave plans.
  • Campus Community: This product area supports the software applications used to collect and maintain biodemographic data about all members of the University community in one location, eliminating the need to re-enter data due to a change in an individual's status. This product area is part of the Student Administration (SA) System and the Human Resource Management System (HRMS), spanning the management of shared, person-related functionality. Campus Community also supports the software applications related to IDCard, Residency, 3Cs (Communications, Checklists, Comments), External Organizations, SEVIS, and SA & HRMS process-specific Security functions. Web transactions on Wolverine Access for students, faculty, and staff allow users to change their addresses, phone numbers, and emergency contact information.

HRMS Division Responsibilities

  • Application Development: Develop and maintain the software applications used to enter, update, and report on data in the M-Pathways Human Resource Management System.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with central offices (on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses, and the Hospital), which include the Benefits Office, Human Resources and Affirmative Action, and the Payroll Office, to ensure that the supported systems meet the needs of the University.
  • Consulting Support: Help schools, colleges, and administrative departments to improve their use of M-Pathways, to refine internal business processes for maximum alignment with enterprise systems, and to achieve optimal balance between enterprise and supplemental systems. Unit consultations support the development of reports and reporting strategies that provide effective management information.   • Documentation & Training: Prepare documentation and coordinate HRMS training classes to acquaint new users with the system and provide experienced users with opportunities to enhance their system skills.
