The Financial Systems Division manages the M-Pathways Financial
System and Physical
Resources System and the Development/ Alumni Systems, as well
as the Business & Finance Information Technology Unit (BFIT).

Financial Systems Division Product Areas
- General Ledger: This product area supports the financial
software applications and processes used for the collection of
financial data as well as for related planning, analysis, and
reporting activities that are required to manage the University's
financial resources. This product area also supports the GL/Budget
data in the M-Pathways
Financial data set in the U-M Data Warehouse.
- Procurement: This product area supports the financial
software applications and processes used to purchase and pay for
goods and services, which include issuing and managing purchase
orders and processing travel advances and expenses, paying vendor
invoices, and issuing credit memos. This product area also supports
the Procurement data in the M-Pathways
Financial data set in the U-M Data Warehouse.
- Asset Management: This product area supports the physical
resources software applications and processes used to maintain
information about equipment including the value, location, and more. This
product area also supports the M-Pathways
Asset Management data set in the U-M Data Warehouse.
- Space Management: This product area supports the physical
resources software applications and processes used to collect
space data for the annual University space survey, which provides
information to meet federal and state reporting requirements.
This product area also supports the M-Pathways
Space Management data set in the U-M Data Warehouse.
- Inventory: This product area supports the inventory software
applications and the business processes of units using the M-Pathways Inventory module, such as U-M Hospital Materiel
Services and Dental Stores. This module facilitates placing orders, receiving vendor shipments,
putting away stock, replenishing stock, and fulfilling customer
requests for inventory items.
- Development Product Area: This product area supports
the U-M Development Systems
which track alumni/donor biographical data and giving history,
and provide gift processing. This product area also supports the
Development data set
in the U-M Data Warehouse. In conjunction with the Office
of Development, this product area is developing and maintaining
enhancements, interfaces, and Web front-end capabilities to the
Development systems.
Financial Systems Division Responsibilities
- Application Development: Develop and maintain the applications
used to enter, update, and report on data in the M-Pathways Financial
and Physical Resources System and the Development/Alumni Systems.
- Coordination: Coordinate with central offices reporting
to the Associate Vice
President for Finance and in the Office
of Development to ensure that the supported systems meet the
needs of the University.
- Consulting Support: Help schools,
colleges, and administrative departments to improve their use
of M-Pathways, to refine internal business processes for maximum
alignment with enterprise systems, and to achieve optimal balance
between enterprise and supplemental systems. Unit consultations
aid in the development of an optimum financial structure and support
the development of reports and reporting strategies that provide
effective management information. Request financial consulting

- Reporting Support: Provide BusinessObjects support for
financial data by providing users with help in developing their
own ad hoc queries, developing complex corporate document (predefined)
reports for use by a wide variety of University units, provide
expert help in troubleshooting queries and developing query strategies
with users.
- Documentation & Training: Prepare documentation and
coordinate training classes for the Financials and Physical
Resources System to acquaint new users with the system and provide
experienced users with opportunities to enhance their system skills.
- Alumni System: Provide data interface services to the
Alumni
Association in support of the Michigan Alumni Connection System.
